For the past 40 years, I have been researching violence and teaching science-based strategies for survival and critical decision-making under stress.

The biggest take-away is that when we change our relationship with fear, we have a much greater chance to change our lives for the better. Sharing this knowledge and training systems with individuals from all walks of life is now my core mission.

Fear management touches every aspect of our work and lives. My research has identified how a toxic relationship with fear negatively impacts every human interaction from physical safety to health, personal and professional relationships, entrepreneurship, public speaking, communication, leadership, and even parenting.

In 1980 I began conducting and analyzing scenario-based training in martial arts/self-defense, but from a very different perspective: I was observing the difference between what people thought they were going to do and what actually happened. I reversed engineered a new approach to developing deeper connections to how physiology, physics, and psychology must work together to address the emotional, psychological and physical realities of fear, perceived danger and violence.

My SPEAR System® has been successfully applied across a broad range of areas from elite military units to soccer moms and visionary leaders in corporate boardrooms and is the only personal defense system vetted by medical experts on three continents.

A new paradigm of research and training required new advanced tools for students to safely and effectively learn and evolve. Consequently, in 1993 with more than 13 years of research and real-world feedback under our belt I launched the world’s first impact reduction scenario equipment called High Gear®.

Our equipment design makes ‘realistic training’ safer and more effective. Initially and still used by the world's most elite military, SWAT and police training units around the world to help them prepare for real violence High Gear® training has evolved to provide the same proven results for everyday people from parents and kids to CEOs and their employees.

During the past four decades I learned that regardless of someone’s training or background, everyone shared similar feelings about performance, outcome, risk, and fear. This led to the development of a strategic, effective and simple way to help people, regardless of experience, age or gender, recognize and overcome ‘their fear’ about an event or outcome in order to achieve greater results.

The program which began in 1988 has evolved into a stand-alone course: KNOW FEAR®.

Our mission has not wavered since the day I began this journey 40 years ago:

WE WANT TO MAKE YOU, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR TEAM AND COLLEAGUES SAFER AND MAKING BETTER DECISIONS UNDER STRESS.
