The SPEAR System®
NO ROOM TO SHOOT - NO TIME TO SHOOT:
For Firearms/Taser trainers, AFO's, Personal Safety Trainers, and members of the Armed Forces
Course Description
The NO ROOM TO SHOOT-NO TIME TO SHOOT course addresses that critical moment during a confrontation when the officer or operator has been attacked and his position is now compromised.
Phase 1: DESIGNED FOR AFO, TASER OFFICER, OR ANY ACTIVE DUTY. This course is perfect for anyone who is extremely close to a violent suspect and needs to break contact to access their PAVA, baton, Taser, or firearm.
Phase 2: WEAPON PROTECTION. This course focuses on sudden attacks with knives, blunt objects, improvised weapons, and firearms. Sudden violence triggers a protective response that can hijack the cognitive brain, which means trained skills are bypassed during a sudden ambush. This is the most critical moment in any confrontation. Neuroscience can explain why this happens. Neuroscience can also help make officers safer with brain-based training. How to convert the flinch, manage fear, and control an armed attacker.
For the intelligent tactical athlete, the SPEAR System® is the only fully ambidextrous close-quarter methodology that does not require the officer or operator to slow down when engaging a threat. It is the only approach built on natural biomechanics and fully supports speed, surprise, and violence of action.
The drills are built around the SPEAR System's intelligent use of the forearm and extensor muscles. All drills address options to escalate or de-escalate based on risk and threat level, from a deadly force threat when your weapon system or a transition has been compromised by the attacker to moving non-combatants and bystanders.
This is an end-user course with an emphasis on drill repetition.
This course addresses sudden reactions while armed with either a carbine or handgun.
Upon completion of the training, the students will have been exposed to the following SPEAR System® drills and skills:
1. No Room / No Time to Shoot Combatives
2. Crowd Penetration Skills
3. Weapon Protection
4. Close Quarter Tools while armed and in kit
5. Transitioning from primary weapon to unarmed skills
6. Solo Handcuffing
7. Tandem Handcuffing
8. Tandem Takedown
9. Tactical Get Up
This course also covers:
Understanding the protective science behind the startle-flinch response.
Learning how to convert this instinctive survival response into a protective and tactical response.
How to use physiology and physics to strengthen your firearms shooting platform.
How to use the SPEAR tactics to move through crowds, move non-combatants, or engage no-shoot threats while maintaining positive control of your kinetic weapons.
All drills will work in full kit, regular uniform, or undercover.
A SPEAR Level 1 or Level 2 certification is not necessary to attend. If you are a past graduate of the SPEAR program this course will extend your certification another 24 months.
Who Should Attend: Armed response teams, firearms trainers, SWAT operators, and military personnel interested in learning skills to deal with No Room To Shoot - No Time To Shoot and of course, No Need To shoot scenarios. An extremely effective course to cover weapon retention, crowd penetration tactics, and drills, weapon protection, extreme close quarters tools, transitioning smoothly from armed to unarmed tactics, and solo and tandem handcuffing.
SPEAR SYSTEM®: NO-ROOM-TO-SHOOT/NO-TIME-TO-SHOOT™
The term was coined by Coach Blauer while working with a military unit in the early 90's. He noticed that most drills were built around 'shoot / no-shoot'. But what about when a combative opponent catches the officer or operator off-guard inside the 'reactionary gap'? He saw a gap in the design of drills and safety of the individual and the mission and immediately began designing a course to help make CQB and CQC safer.
The program was immediately embraced by full-time SWAT teams and Tier 1 military units as it addressed multiple scenarios without changing the officer or operators field of fire or control of their weapon systems.
The course is part of the SPEAR System® family of training. It is completely based around our core principles.
